Snapper
The mainstay of the inshore fishery throughout the Bay of Plenty is the humble Snapper, we employ a range of methods to catch them from deep fishing with baits to shallow fishing with lightly weighted baits cast into a berley trail.
Yellowtail Kingfish
If there is one species that we know how to catch at Extreme Sportfishing Adventures it is the mighty Kingfish. Over the years we have been constantly perfecting new and innovative techniques to help you catch bigger and better Yellowtail Kingfish.
Marlin
Stiped Marlin are the main target but don’t be surprised if a massive Blue Marlin pounces on your bait and takes you for a ride of a lifetime. Giant Black Marlin turn up on some of our reefs and places like Astrolabe Reef or Penguin Shoals are proven locations.
Jigging
Jigging for kingfish has to be one of the most exciting and ways to fish. Packed with adrenaline the huge strikes, and ensuing battles, make this a highly addictive form of fishing. Our knowledge is something we are keen to share, so you too can enjoy this thrilling method of enticing big fish.
Tuna
Keep an eye on our newsletter to know when the tuna have arrived, the last few years the runs of Tuna have been short but if you get out on the water when they are here then you may have an opportunity at one of these remarkable sport fish.
Popping
This has to be the most exciting way to fish for Kingfish, a monster Kingfish smashing a surface lure is something that needs to be seen to be believed.
Swordfish
These are a truly remarkable fish and the Bay of Plenty is one of the only places in the world where you can have a realistic chance of targeting them on a trailer boat. The calm autumn and winter months are the time to start thinking about venturing out.
Live Baiting
This is the tried and true method of catching Kingfish and it is always worth grabbing a few live baits when you are heading out to chase these big predators. If you want a chance at a really big Kingfish then ask us about one of our favourite techniques, which is slow trolling huge live baits.
Other Species
There is a wide range of other species which we can help you target. You may want to try chasing the hard fighting Kahawai and Trevally on light gear or deep drifting with baits for some of the superb eating fish such as Hapuka, Bluenose, Bass and Tarakihi.
Salt Water Fly
We can use our top water lures to tease up some of the huge Kingfish to present them within casting distance to an awaiting fly. A visual take combined with the hard fighting characteristics common with Kingfish is sure to please any keen salt water fly fisherman.
